June 30, 2021. The Suns had the opportunity to close out the series in LA against the Clippers. They came into the night with a 3-2 series lead. Led by Chris Paul, they left were able to seal the deal to go to their first NBA finals since 1993.
Chris Paul led the Suns with 41 points, 8 assists, and 4 rebounds in 35 minutes. His leadership on the court was on full display to get to his first ever NBA Finals. Booker, Ayton, and Crowder also pulled in double digits to close out their opponents.
The Clippers on the other hand, began to fall apart towards the end. Paul George did the best he could do with having Kawhi Leonard on the court with him. The biggest takeaway is Pat Beverly. He is a great defender and the way he gets under opponents skin is masterful, but he has moments like the one above where he becomes a liability.
The Clippers have a very important off-season ahead of them. Kawhi has a player option that he could use to opt out, this post season showed that they need one more role player who can be a play maker for them. If I were them, I’d kick the tires on Victor Oladipo, Kyle Lowry, or Danny Green to add another scoring option.
For the Suns, they are now just waiting to see who comes out of the Bucks and Hawks series that is currently tied at 2 games a piece.
